Kemer is the most important touristic center of Turkey in the foot of west
Toros mountains near 43 km to Antalya and 52 km along the beach. There was
a village with
tiny
muddy tiny lakes and swamps called "Old Village" created by the
torrent from mountains in 1910's. A 23km of stony walls like had been built
up a belt to prevent that torrent by the people of Old Village. After times,
they called to their village 'Kemer' that means 'Belt' in Turkish.
There was no highway to Kemer in 1960's so all the arrivals was providing
by ships, but today Kemer is turned one of most popular touristic centers
int Turkey with the implementation of 'Tourism Project of South Antalya',
Kemer has growned up fast with highways and other infrastructures. By the
way, Kiris, Tekirova, Çayova, Aslanbucak, Kuzdere, Beycik, Çamyuva,
Göynük, Beldibi, Çirali settlements takes highly important
places for Antalya's tourism as Kemer.
This resort town has been carefully designed to blend in with the surrounding scenery and offers an ideal enviroment for a wonderful holiday. The fully-equipped Kemer marina allows yachtsmen to enjoy the unspoiled bays and beaches south of the town. Shoppers will delight in the wonderful range of high quality souvenirs for sale. A beach promenade north of the marina has steps down from its cafes and shops leading directly to the beach. Kemer Beach is a Blue Flag beach. (The term "Blue Flag" coined by the European Union sinifies especially clean beaches). In the Yörük (Nomad) Theme Park you can watch traditional crafts people at work. The adjoining bay is charming and delightful spot with many sports and daily entertainment facilities discreetly hidden among the pines. April is the mounth for the colorful Kemer Carnival. Also in the spring are the yacht races between Kemer and Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and between other locations.

Kiziltepe, Göynük (Blue Flag) and Beldibi (Blue Flag) north of Kemer
and Çamyuva an Tekirova (Blue Flag) to the south, are tourist centers
that offer various activites. The holiday villages are all desinged to blend
into the forest that encircles them. At the foot of 2575 meter high Mt. Tahtali
(Olympos), 15 km south of Kemer, the three harbors of Phaelis were once a
major commerical center. The ruins of aqueducts, agoras, baths, a theater,
Hadrian's Gate and an acropolis reveal the city's historical impotance. From
the south harbor, look up to Mt. Tahtali for a spectacular view. The sheltered
sandy beaches make a superb playground, and the waters are calm and safe for
swimmers.
The ancietnt city of Os is situated on the southern side of Mt. Tahtali. Oleander
and larual budhes shade the Olympos Valley, which can be approached by land
or sea. The light playing on the quiet pools of water enhance the mosaics
in the bath. A temple gate possibly built during the reigh of Marcus Aurelius
(161-180 AD), part of a bridge, and a Roman theater also remain from antiquity.
The outher walls and towers around the bay date from date from the Middle
Ages.
North of Olympos up from Çirali Beach is Yanartas (at a height of 300
meters) where Greek mythology tells us the Lycian hero Bellerophon mounted
winged horse Pegasus and slew the fire-breathing Chimaera. Gas which seep
from the earth burns brightly at night at this site, which the Byzntines also
considered a religious area.
